Wild Trade

National Wildlife Conservation has initiated action against 35 people, within 3 months, for poaching and smuggling of wildlife. Some of those charged are those wanted in the international level. According to experts, Nepal has presently become the hub for wildlife related crime. Wildlife items are used by some countries for fashion and sex purposes. With the increasing demand for the items, the trading of wildlife items from Nepal to the western world has also increased.

Police has marked Kalanki, Balkhu, Balaju and Boudha as the areas for wildlife trading centres. Even though police has beefed up its operation, most of the criminals are still on the scot free. Police say, the trend of smuggling wildlife items in bags of edibles, from Nepal to abroad, is on the rise.
